The Almshouses at Stones Court, St Clements

Almshouses throughout England and Wales have over many centuries sought to provide accommodation for those who could not afford to buy or rent. The City of Oxford Charity almshouses are at Stones Court, St Clements and applications can be accepted from residents of the City of Oxford, preference being given to the elderly.

The Almshouses are arranged in three blocks:

  • Stones, the original foundation, opened as a hospital in 1700, now consists of one flat for a married couple and four bedsitting flats.

  • Mary Duncan, built in the 1960's, consists of eight flats each with a bedroom, living room, and kitchenette and bathroom.

  • Parsons, also built in the 1960's with similar accommodation to Mary Duncan.

There is a manager, currently Jill Salvat. There is a Community Room for the use of the residents, and a Guest Room for visitors.

Vacancies are advertised as they arise in the local press. Applicants should normally be resident in the City of Oxford at time of appointment. Application forms can be obtained from the Charity Administrator, Applications will be kept on file for 1 year if there is no vacancy.
